Inter-connectivity

I’ve spent the last couple of days at Ronda’s swinging a 20 lb. sledgehammer and breaking rocks for the little section of “road” we’re building in her backyard. Every block, every stone, when asked, yielded with the same crack and dull thud.

A couple of years ago I saw a paleontologist on TV talking about the extinction of the dinosaurs. He debunked the idea that they were all killed off by a giant comet. He suggested that while the seas were drawn up in an ice age exposing the Bering Strait land bridge, all of the “Asian” dinosaurs had the opportunity to walk across and intermingle with all of the “North American” dinosaurs. They then swapped diseases for which their immune systems were not prepared and, over a short span of time, they were through. It was his position that their increased inter-connectivity did them in. It was then that I knew our increased inter-connectivity would do us in as well.

Ah, another difficult-to-read post from my past self. I’ll clarify, if I may. I like being connected with people. I love living in a community in which people know each other, help each other, and work together on projects. I just wish we could connect with each other, in the same way, at scale.
Or maybe we do and we mostly hear about the times when it doesn’t work well. Maybe we don’t hear about all of the successful trade, travel, friendships, and cultural exchanges, or organizations building schools and supporting public health in developing countries. Maybe we mainly hear about the wars and the times when our interconnectivity acts as a viral vector.
Well, I’ll believe we can connect positively at scale and will continue to contribute to that here on the site, and in my life. I invite you to too. :)
